About the Job

Inspector of mechanical, machined, electronic parts and assemblies in a manufacturing environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure all parts, assemblies, materials and processes presented by materials, manufacturing or engineering personnel for inspection are compliant to approved specifications and drawings. Report all deviations from approved processes and specifications.
  • Understand National Optronics quality procedures.
  • Utilize proper tools and techniques in inspection and measurement.
  • Perform inspections and communication of noncompliance in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide noncompliance reports based on factual data with supporting objective evidence.
  • Solicit quality improvement from the workforce and communicate all reasonable suggestions with judgment to quality management
  • Advise Supervisor of quality defects in components that may present a delivery date from being met.
  • Ability to adjust to an ever changing environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Must be experienced with the use of dimensional measuring tools such as micrometer, caliper, toolmakers microscope, optical comparator, and applicable gauges. In addition, knowledge of vision system and CMM inspection equipment would be a plus, but not mandatory. Should be experienced using a multimeter ,familiar with cable and harness fabrication and inspection, soldering and ESD procedures.  Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read mechanical prints, assembly drawings, and simple electronic diagrams.  Should be a detail-oriented person with strong, clear communication skills.  A 3-4 year technical education in mechanics, electronics, or instrumentation and/or equivalent experience in a related quality assurance program would be desirable. Education/experience in quality assurance, technical writing, non-destructive inspection and test, materials and processes, statistical tools and techniques and/or problem solving a must. Must be familiar with PC usage and standard applications. CQT certification helpful, but not required.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, metric conversions and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
